Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have to play sport to have a sport massage?
No. Sports massage and deep tissue is an excellent treatment for athletic and non athletic people alike. You don’t need to play sport to have tight and over worked muscles.
What do I wear to a sports massage?
It is best to wear loose clothing, and for women to wear an unfastenable bra, rather than a sports bra. You will always be covered with a towel during the massage, and left to change in private, before and after the massage. If it is your first time, it is advised that you wear a pair of shorts and a vest to enable the therapist to see the joints and muscles clearly during assessment.
Will a sports massage hurt?
This type of massage can be uncomfortable or painful at times, due to the deep strokes, but the therapist will communicate with you throughout the massage, and pressure can be lessened if the client finds it too much. Generally, it is a relieving type of pain.
What should I expect if I’ve never been for a massage before?
At the start of your first treatment your therapist will talk to you about any medical history, previous injuries, the reason you have come to see them and a bit about your lifestyle. The therapist may carry out some tests on your movement and look at your posture before beginning the massage. A treatment plan and after care will be discussed at the end of the massage.
How regularly should I get a massage?
This largely depends on your lifestyle and whether you are seeking massage as a treatment for a problem. If the latter, your therapist will recommend how often and how many you might need to treat the problem.
My Body Therapy recommends clients getting a massage around every 6 weeks to keep your muscles soft and in excellent condition.
How will I feel after a sports massage?
Depending on how deep the massage was, you may feel a little tender in certain areas after your massage. This will soon pass and you will feel much looser, with your muscles in a better condition and posture improved.
How will I feel after Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage (MLD)?
After an MLD treatment, you should feel more relaxed and clear-headed. You may feel quite tired, so it’s best to take it easy. You may also need to urinate a bit more often, as your body flushes out waste products faster than normal.
Can I park at the clinic?
